Flashpoint: Lampard's chip goes well over the line

Figure of controversy Above: Jorge Larrionda missed Lampard's 'goal' against Germany

Uruguay's leading newspaper has called on the country’s FA to apologise to England fans over Frank Lampard’s disallowed ‘goal’.

Lampard was denied against Germany when Uruguayan referee Jorge Larrionda and his assistant Mauricio Espinosa, who flew out of Bloemfontein yesterday, failed to notice the midfielder’s shot had bounced a foot over the line.

El Pais responded by apologising with the headline, ‘In the name of soccer: sorry’, and urged officials to do the same in a letter to their English counterparts at Wembley.

Lampard’s former manager at Chelsea, Jose Mourinho, now in charge at Real Madrid, said goal-line technology has to be introduced to prevent further disputes.

This guys just wont just give up...
