THE pass mark for degrees in both private and public universities has been raised under a new grading system aimed at promoting quality.

The grading, issued by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE), does not affect continuing students.
Although it was agreed upon by public and private universities in 2008, the policy implementation starts this academic year.
Accordingly, first-class honours degree, whose cumulative grade point average stands at 4.4-5.0, is not affected. However, to qualify for a first-class degree, a student must now score 75 marks and above in all course units.

The grade points for the second-class upper honours were raised to 4.3-4.0 from 4.3-3.6, while the pass mark for the second-class lower degree moves to 3.9-3.0 from 3.0-2.8.
So, a student now needs to score 70-74% and 69-65% to qualify for upper and lower second class degrees respectively.
Marks for a pass degree were also raised to 2.9-2.0 from 2.5-1.5. Such a degree now requires a student to score 50-59% marks, while 49% and below is a fail.

The tution is high the grades a high..serously Uganda this is not fair

Red Papper says that Juliana Kanyomozi is surely taking a back seat from Ugandan showbiz and night life. and they can  tell why. With her son Keiron set to enroll at a prestigious school in the UK, a serious mansion complete with state-of-the-art equipment already underway and a long line of guys competing for her attention, no one can blame her.The latest is that yet again a top officer in the special forces has bought for her a prime land in Lungujja. This place will be used for the construction of first class estates in the area and she will be the sole owner when they are fully finished.
hehhehehe...True of false we dont know..

A row has erupted over the winner of the Miss Uganda 2010 pageant. Hazmie Nansubuga, 25, was crowned shortly before mid-night on Saturday at the Imperial Royale Hotel in Kampala.

The sales representative from Jinja beat 11 other finalists to the crown after three hours on the catwalk.

Barbara Kajote was 1st runner-up, while Gloria Atuhaire came second.

“I will represent Uganda well in the Miss World contest, because I am good-natured, intelligent, confident and beautiful,” a beaming Nansubuga told journalists after being declared winner.

But shortly after she had been announced winner, Allan Kasujja, a Capital FM presenter, and one of the four judges, told journalists that Nansubuga was not the contestant the judges had chosen as the winner.

Kasujja said they had unanimously chosen Aisha Nagudi as winner.

Nagudi, a 21-year-old second-year law student of Makerere University, had earlier in the evening won two of the three catwalk sessions; the traditional and evening wear.

Another judge said the judges had chosen Nagudi because she was exceptionally tall.

“Height is a very prized quality at the Miss World pageant. Since the winner is going to represent Uganda in the world pageant, we felt Nagudi’s height stood a better chance of winning out there,” the judge said.

Nansubuga, according to the judge, was the first runner-up.

But Joyce Church, the Miss World licence holder for Miss Uganda and event organiser, said the judges’ decision was not final since winning was not solely based on the activities of the evening.

Let the gal go with her Title and we all call it a day...
