A bomb exploded on Sunday night at the home of a former Minister of Police Affairs, Yakubu Lame, in GRA Bauchi, the Bauchi State capital (North-East Nigeria).
the bomb was planted by two men who rode on a motorcycle to the ex-minister‘s house around 7.30pm. Upon getting there, one of them in white attempted to sneak into the compound to plant the bomb.He was, however, accosted by a securityman at the house and fled with a bag. As he jumped on the waiting motorcycle, he threw the bag at the fence of the house, triggering an explosion.www.mannastores.com
Nobody was hurt. But the loud explosion caused fresh fears among residents of the city, which has been wracked by sporadic outbursts of violence in the past one year.
It was not certain who was behind the attack but the method bore the imprint of outlawed Islamic sect, Boko Haram.
The sect has been behind a number of deadly bomb attacks in parts of the North and Abuja. It claimed responsibility for Friday‘s bomb attack on the headquarters of the United Nations in Abuja, which claimed 23 lives.
The Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on the telephone. He said the police were considering a curb on the use of motorcycles in the state, since they were being used by criminals.
