John Dye, who starred on Touched by an Angel as Andrew, the angel of death, has died. Dye passed away suddenly on Monday from a heart attack. He was only 47 years old.

According to a report from Yahoo! TV, Dye was in San Francisco at the time of his death.

His role of Andrew was a recurring role for the first two seasons of Touched by an Angel. By the third season, however, Andrew became a regular, giving Dye a full time role on the show, where he stayed until it ended in 2003.

In addition to Touched by an Angel, John Dye also appeared on TV in Murder, She Wrote. His movie credits include The Perfect Weapon, Sioux City, Modern Girls, and Fist of the Warrior.

Actress Valerie Bertinelli played alongside Dye in Touched by an Angel. She tweeted the following when she learned of her friend's death.

"Dear, sweet John Dye, rest in peace," she tweeted.

John Dye's father, Jim Dye, says he wishes he had chastised his son a bit more about working too much.

"Take care of yourself son, you go too hard, you play too hard and you work too hard. Slow down and he didn't. In the end his heart gave out," he says.

How sad that this talented actor has died at the young age of 47. His sudden death has likely devastated his friends and family members, as well as those within the acting world who knew and loved him.

John Dye is survived by his father, and brothers Jerre and Jamey Dye.

Rest in peace, John Dye. He has now been truly touched by angels, and now rests peacefully in their arms.
